  • The Elephant Delinquents of Pilanesberg 🦏🐘

We delve into the fascinating story of the elephants introduced to the Pilanesberg reserve in 1979. Most of these magnificent creatures were orphans of culling operations, which meant they lacked essential role models to teach them proper behaviour.

πŸ˜πŸ’” Without guidance, the young bulls started misbehaving, bullying females, and attempting to force them into mating. This resulted in worrying consequences, as the younger elephants became aggressive, attacking rhinos and even numerous tourist vehicles. Tragically, 40 rhinos lost their lives, and one human fatality occurred due to their aggressive behaviour.

πŸ’”πŸ˜’ The root cause of this delinquent behaviour was the frustration arising from the rejection the young bulls faced from the females. The females recognized that the younger bulls were not yet fully mature, leading to their refusal to mate. In their heightened hormonal states, the young bulls reacted severely, leading to unfortunate rhino deaths and other aggressive acts.

But this story isn’t all doom and gloom. Over time, efforts were made to address these issues, and the reserve’s management implemented various strategies to help the elephants integrate and develop healthy behaviours.

Join us as we explore the intriguing lives of these magnificent creatures, their challenges, and the inspiring initiatives taken to restore harmony in the Pilanesberg reserve. 🌿🌍

  • Koala Gets Kicked Out Of Tree and Cries!

Move over toddlers, this is how you tantrum! This little Koala never gives up and persistence paid off – it won the tree by nightfall! I felt so sorry for this poor bubba, it was heart breaking to watch and so very hard to not to go comfort it, but I don’t interfere with wild animals and will call koala rescue / 1300koalaz for advice (as I did for this situation).

I would love to introduce you to ‘Koala Life’, a local organisation I’d love to support. It would be amazing if you can support this wonderful organisation.
